The regulations took effect on 1 October 2023, but the date they apply to your fleet depends on when each vehicle was first used on a local service. Start the process in good time.

Applicability is subject to the Regulations, including exemptions and partial-compliance provisions. Vehicles first used before 1 January 1973, minibuses carrying 16 or fewer passengers, and demand-responsive services may be exempt.
What the regulations require onboard
Key information must be provided to passengers in both audible and visual formats, sourced from the freely available NaPTAN database, including stop common name, town, suburb and locality, plus route and destination or direction.
Audible information
Clear, concise announcements within the 300–3000 Hz range, set 3 dB above ambient noise (max 84 dB) and accessible via induction loops for hearing-aid users.
Visible information
Unobstructed line of sight to a display from priority seats and wheelchair spaces, characters at least 22 mm high, no block-capitals-only text and minimal scrolling.
Consistent naming
Stop names sourced from NaPTAN to stay consistent with timetables and journey planners. Welsh-language provision should be considered for routes in Wales.
Managed properly
Equipment must be used correctly, kept operational and supported by staff procedures and a clear audit trail. Non-compliance is enforced via the DVSA and Traffic Commissioner.
